A native of Taiwan, Pin-hui Tsai (蔡品輝) is a dynamic cellist and dedicated educator based in Long Island, New York. He serves on the faculty of the New York Conservatory and the Bloomingdale School of Music while maintaining a thriving private studio where his students excel in the NYSSMA Evaluation Festival and develop a lifelong passion for music. Having recently completed his doctoral degree at Stony Brook University (December 2024), Tsai served as a Teaching Assistant at the Brevard Summer Festival and provided chamber music coaching to undergraduate students at Stony Brook University. In 2025, he will take part in the prestigious Banff Winter Musician Residency with Project 23.6° N, promoting contemporary Taiwanese composers and celebrating the culture of his homeland.

Pin-hui’s career spans a diverse range of performances and collaborations. In Taiwan, he has appeared at iconic venues such as the National Concert Hall in Taipei and performed in Hsinchu, Taichung, and Kaohsiung. Internationally, he has worked with renowned artists including Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, Clara-Jumi Kang, Rachel Barton Pine, and Yo-Yo Ma. As part of Stony Brook University’s Outreach Program and Decoda Workshop, Tsai has brought chamber music to nursing homes and public libraries across Long Island. He has also been a strong supporter of the Shema Youth Orchestra, which organizes benefit concerts for charitable causes.

An advocate for cultural and musical education, Tsai has won top prizes in competitions such as the Taipei and Taiwan Music Competition and was invited to speak on National Education Radio about the importance of integrating chamber music into school curriculums. His accolades include receiving a scholarship from the MacDowell Club of Milwaukee, winning the Chamber Music Competition at the Hartt School, and earning fellowships with the Stamford Symphony and the Round Top Festival Institute. His earlier experiences include working with the Opportunity Music Project and the Harmony Program, which support underserved communities in the New York City area.

Pin-hui Tsai earned his Bachelor’s degree with honors in Music Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, studying with Dr. Stefan Kartman, and his Master’s degree from the Hartt School under Prof. Mihai Tetel. He recently completed his doctoral degree under the guidance of Prof. Colin Carr at Stony Brook University.

Outside of music, Pin-hui enjoys hiking, meditating, and savoring a good book over a cup of coffee.
